Cherry StreetToronto, Ontario

3B Urban Design Studio
Fall 2006

The Cherry Street project seeks to address the lack of strong north-south axes in Toronto's waterfront — there is no street clearly intended to deliver residents to the water’s edge. As part of a proposed scheme for the West Donlands area, Cherry Street becomes this missing link to the waterfront, at the junction of Lake Ontario, the Keating Channel, Commissioner’s Park, and newly-proposed parkland on the lakeshore. It becomes integral to an interconnected series of open-specific public spaces (a space that promotes and facilitates a variety of uses, rather than predetermining a single purpose), and to the development of the current brownfield site on the West Donlands.
